Woonona Wine District

The Woonona Wine District is centred on Woonona a northern suburb of Wollongong, Buli and Russell Vale in the Illawarra Wine Region about 100 km south of Sydney. Woonona has many shops dotted along the highway and an array of historic buildings. The local beach is renowned for its excellent surfing conditions and it is patrolled by lifesavers during the summer months. The beach also features a large rock shelf known as Collins Rocks, that features a 50 m swimming rock pool. The Woonona area has a very picturesque landscape with a narrow coastal strip frame by the steep Illawarra Escarpment. To the west is the Woronora Plateau that has an mean elevation height of about 400 metres. The escarpment is heavily forested. Many visitors enjoy riding along the The Wollongong to Thirroul Bike Track that extends along the beachside park. The fishing from the beach and rocks is excellent.

The Illawarra Wine Region is home to 9 districts: Wollongong ; Stanwell Park ; Shellharbour ; Thirroul ; Woonona ; Unanderra ; Albion Park ; Jamberoo ; Corrimal.
