climate The Merricks Wine District includes wineries between the towns of Merricks and Red Hill South on the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne. The area is home to a chocolate factory and the Peninsula Quarter Horse Association. Also in district are the Merricks Creek vineyard that focuses on Pinot noir based wines and the famous Stoniers Winery, dating from1978, and that produces delightful Chardonnay and Pinot noir wines. Stonier is renowned for crafting excellent varietal wines on the Mornington Peninsula in this district. The standard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are always fantastic wines and are terrific value, and the Reserve range has won many awards over the years. There is a delightful 6.3 km horse riding trail along a disused railway route that runs roughly east-west from Red Hill to Merricks Station Ground Reserve. It passes through mostly rural land between East and Coolart Creeks. Some of the other wineries in the area are: Benbullen Estate Vineyard, Brinalon, Lavender Bay, Merricks Creek, Merricks Estate, Merricks General Store, Merrifields Vineyard, Paradigm Hill, Paringa Estate, Prancing Horse Estate, Stonier's Winery, The Duke Vineyard.

The Mornington Penisula Wine Region includes thirteen districts : Boneo ; Arthurs Seat ; Dromana ; Red Hill ; Shoreham ; Merricks ; Foxeys ; Balnarring ; Tuerong ; Main Ridge ; Moorooduc ; Mt Eliza ; Stanleys
