Newcastle Wine District

The Newcastle Wine District includes the wineries close to Newcastle and the towns dotted along the Hunter River, including: Hexham, Sandgate, Raymond Terrace. The district ids part of the Lower Hunter Wine Region that follows the Hunter River Valley from Newcastle to Murrurundi. Newcastle is famous for its wonderful array of surfing beaches, its fascinating heritage and fine exmples of heritage buildings and its thriving arts and entertainment scene. There is a well developed focus on regional foods and fine wines with its great restaurants, bars, cafes, farmers markets and many fresh food outlets. There are a broad range of attrctions and activities including: # Hunter Wetlands Centre # Host of guided tours of the Hunter Valley # The Newcastle Visitor Information # Queens Wharf Brewery # Newcastle's famous five surfing beaches, two of which have outdoor ocean baths. # The wonderful range of more than 30 art galleries in the Newcastle District. # Walk the Bathers Way, a 5-km coastal walk from Merewether to Nobbys Light House # Tours of Stockton Sand Dunes by quad bike or 4WD and enjoy skating down the huge dunes # The National Maritime Festival held in January # The Newcastle weekly City Farmers and Craft markets # Newcastle Jazz Festival held in August # The Olive Tree Markets, featuring handmade art and design, held every year in December.

The Lower Hunter Wine Region is home to 7 districts: Newcastle ; Dungog ; Maitland ; Kurri Kurri ; Cessnock ; Singleton ; Putty Road.

Unique in Australia, Inner City Winemakers is within walking distance of Newcastle’s CBD and beautiful working harbour. Here locals and visitors alike can sample our unique range of wines at our cellar door and winery. All our staff have had an active roll in the creating of the wines all the way from blending the wine styles to creating the label design so we all share the same passion in what we do. We are open for wine sales and tastings Wednesday to Sunday 10am ’til 5pm. Inner City Winemakers is also a venue for Art Exhibitions as well as musical evenings.
