climate The Bombala Wine District is based around the charming southern Monaro area town of Bombala located on the banks of the Bombala River, about 480 km south-west of Sydney. The town is surrounded by pretty rolling pastures, dense native forests and National Parks. It is situated about 80 km south of Cooma and the major agricultural activities are sheep and beef cattle grazing. The area is also very popular with tourists who mostly enjoy camping and bushwalking and fishing for trout in the local streams which are also a good place to see platypus in the wild. Juts 20 km from Bombala is the famous South East Forest National Park which boasts magnificent old-growth forests, fascinating swamps and fern-filled gullies and is an ideal place for camping, hiking and rock climbing. Some of the local attractions, activities and events include: # Bombala Motorcycle Festival in September. # The Spring Fair in October run by the Bombala and District Garden Club. # The Annual Engine Rally organised by the Bombala Historical Engines and Machinery Society. # The Platypus Country Visitor Information Centre at Railway Park.
