Moree Wine District

The Moree Wine District is located in the Northern Slopes Region in the north western New South Wales, based on the area surrounding Moree about 650 km north-west from Sydney and 480 km south-west from Brisbane. Moree has a thriving friendly, rural caring community with a fantastic lifestyle and many great attractions and activities. The rich and fertile black alluvial soils of the Gwydir Valley support a wide range of agricultural pursuits. Moree Plains Shire is one the most productive and diverse agricultural shire in Australia, and the main agricultural products are cotton, beef cattle, wheat, pecan-nuts, olives, sheep, wool, cereal crops and a few grape and fruit based wineries. Moree is renowned for its famous Hot Mineral Baths which have been used by locals and tourists since 1895. There are now 2 large pools with hot temperatures that range from 39 to 41 degrees C. There is also a 50 m long, 6 lane Olympic Pool, a popular Junior Pool and a smaller Toddlers pool. Another major attraction is the local Pecan Nut Farm, one of very few in Australia. It is situated about 35 km from the centre of Moree, on the Gwydir Highway, east of Moree. Virtually all of Australia`s Pecan-nut crop is produced at Moree by Trawalla Pecan Nut Farm. It is the largest Pecan orchard in Australia and has more than 70,000 trees. There are many popular sporting attractions including the par 72 hole Golf Course located on the Mehi River, which is regarded as one of the best country golf courses in NSW. Moree and the surrounding villages has many heritage buildings and arts and craft shops, as well as a wide range of food outlets, including local wines.
