climate The Scone and Scone Valley Wine District includes the area surrounding the charming country town of Scone that boasts a host of wonderful attractions and facilities for many activities in the area. It is close to an array of spectacular National Parks including the world-famous, World Heritage listed - Barrington Tops area and Lake Glenbawn, which is the largest of the Upper Hunter recreational waterways. It is well renowned as the horse capital of Australia and there are more than 70 horse studs around the local area. It is also a good base for exploring all the delights of the Upper Hunter area including the splendid range of wineries that have an international reputation. The local area is also becoming very popular for vineyards, wineries and cellar doors in Scone Valley and close to the centre of Scone. Some local attractions include:# The Burning Mountain Nature Reserve, which is located about 20 km north of Scone on the New England Highway. It features a coal seam that has been burning for more than 5,000 years # The Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival held in May and features thoroughbred sales, campdrafts and The Scone Cup race carnival, food and wine, markets, art shows, family fun days, fireworks, rodeos, country fairs. # Tours of local wineries.
