Manjimup Wine Region, WA

The Manjimup Wine Region is a lovely region located in Western Australia's Southern corner near the Margaret River Region. The Warren River flows through the north-eastern part of the region right through to Pemberton, and the nearby Donnelly River flows across the eastern corner of the region. The main towns are Palgarup, Manjimup, Quinninup, Nyamup and Jardee. Manijimup boasts a range of fabulous boutique wineries, many with cellar doors, and some with cafes and restaurants. The area also has magnificent forests and beautiful rich countryside. Harvest time is mid March to late April. Pinot Noir is the outstanding variety in the region as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho. Manjimup is the coolest wine region in Western Australia because of its elevation and close proximity to the coast and the ocean. These soils are very similar to those in the Margaret River and due to the topography the soils are very well drained. Most vineyards in Manjimup are located at an elevation of about 300 m above sea level. The majority of vineyards in Manjimup are family owned and operated. The vineyards are relatively recent. Yanmah Ridge Vineyard was the first commercial vineyard in what is now the Manjimup Wine Region. The first vineyards were planted there in 1987.

The Manjimup Wine Region includes two districts : Manjimup South ; Manjimup North
