Coal River Valley Wine Region, Tas
The Coal River Valley wine region is located on about 20 minute drive by car north east of from Hobart. The region includes the towns of Richmond, Cambridge, Campania and Tea Tree. Most of the vineyards are sited on north east slopes in the valley to get most benefit from the sun. Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon blanc are the classic varieties here, but many other varieties are grown. Many of the vineyards have cellar doors and offer friendly tastings, chats with the wine maker and discount sales. There are many excellent vineyard cafes and restaurants in the area as well as fresh food outlets. For a quick view of the area, get a map and follow the Coal River Valley Wine Route on a half or full-day tour. Taking an organised wine tour with a driver is a good idea as it enable
you to really enjoy your tasting and your friends company when following the route. The valley has a number of famous
winery cellar doors including Meadowbank Estate, Domaine A - Stoney Vineyard and Coal Valley Vineyard.
