Brisbane & Scenic Rim Wine Region

The Scenic Rim Wine Region lies in the vicinity of an ancient shield volcano. It covers the area inland of the Gold Coast hinterland. It extends northwards from the NSW border to Tamborine Mountain and Marburg in the north. It lies south of Ipswich and Marburg. The vineyards scattered through areas surrounding Purga, Mt Alford, Harrisville, Boonah and the upland valleys near the Southern Border ranges. Some vineyards have also been established in the rainforest areas in the foothills of Mt Tamborine and the countryside near Albert River and Canungra. The Scenic Rim benefits from the cooler climates near Mt Tamborine and in the Albert River and Canungra Valleys. Grapevines were first planted at Purga as early as the 1870’s, with some wine being exported to the UK and Europe. The industry then went into a decline. But it has resurge with a vengeance. Some of earliest plantings occurred in 1984 at Ironbark Ridge. Since then many more boutique vineyards have been planted.
