The Gulgong District is based on the old goldmining town of Gulgong where the famous Australian poet Henry Lawson lived in his early days. Take a stroll along the twisting main streets of Gulgong that follow the path through the original gold mine claim boundaries and see a range of heritage buildings such as commercial premises, cottages, churches, and the famous Opera House Theatre. Visit the Henry Lawson Visitor Centre and trace the famous poet`s life, and visit the Pioneers` Museum and see how people dressed, lived and worked in Gulgong 150 years ago. You can examine their machinery and tools and see a working printing press. Explore Red Hill with its old gold mine shaft.
