The Clare Valley Wine Region is one of Australia`s most famous wine producing areas. It is made up of twelve separate valleys
which all link to form one of the prettiest wine producing areas in Australia. The Clare Valley wine region is quite small,
covering a length of 35 km and is subdivided into five sub-regions; Clare, Sevenhill, Watervale, Polish Hill River and Auburn.
Each of these sub-regions is different reflecting the various features of the valleys such as soil-type, altitude and climate and this produces distictive terroirs in each of the sub-regions. The many towns in the area include Clare, Leasingham, Watervale, Penwortham, Sevenhill, Mintaro and Polish Hill River. The renowned Riesling trail follows the old railway line for about 30 km between Clare and Auburn linking the villages
of the wine region and offers cyclists and walkers a wonderful opportunity to see the countryside and enjoy the wines.
Vineyards were first established in the valley in the mid 1800s. and today there is a mix of very large wine companies
and many smaller boutique wineries. The climate features cool to cold nights and warm to hot summer days. Most of the
rain falls in winter and early spring (from June to September). Average annual rainfall is about 630 millimetres.
Mean January temp: 21.9 degrees C; Sunshine hours per day: 9.3.
