Flinders Island Ranges Wine Region

The Flinders Island Wine Region includes the delightful Finders Island which is the largest of the of 52 islands in the Furneaux Group. It is the only island in the group with permanent settlement and it is a very popular tourist destination features wonderful natural areas and outstanding dairy and other food products. It is located in the Bass Strait about located 20 km off the north-eastern tip of Tasmania at Cape Portland. The island is 70 km long by 40 km wide. Fishing is a very popular attraction on the island, together with bushwalking, diving and just relaxing on the beaches. You can hire a car and go exploring. Take your rod and reel for excellent fishing from the rocks, headlands and beaches. The scuba diving us superb especially on the north and western sides of the island. There is a fantastic bushwalking including the 5 hour trek, ascending to the top of Mt Strzelecki, after walking to the base of the mountain about 10km south of Whitemark. The are abounds in wildlife. There are many interesting villages and localities on the island. Visit the island museum, which has some fantastic displays showcasing the island's heritage. There is a good selection of accommodation and restaurants at the main towns of Whitemark and Lady Barron, and a selection of holiday houses dotted around the island. There are several wineries on the island with the largest being Unavale Vineyard,located at Badgers Corner.
