The Henty Wine Region extends along the Great Ocean Road in Southern Victoria.
The Region boasts rich maritime history, and wonderful natural attractions near
the townships of Hamilton, Dunkeld, Coleraine, Casterton, Portland, Port Fairy, Dartmoor
and Warrnambool. The region has a wide range of climatic conditions.The region is renowned as a wool producing area.and for its tourism based on its dramatic coastline. The modern vineyard development period started in the 1960s when Seppelt established their Drumborg vineyard.and many other plantings followed during the1980s and 1990s. The region extends from the South Australian border in the west to the Hopkins River in the east, with the section along the Henty Highway between Portland and Hamilton being the main grape growing area. The soils
are fertile producing excellent Chardonnay, Riesling, Meunier, Pinot Noir and Shiraz... The region's wonderful scenic coastline attracts many visitors who are well catered for by the wide range of fine accommodation, facilities, cafes and restaurants and ... The region hosts a number of big events including the Port Fairy Folk Festival and the Wunta Food and Wine Festival at Warrnambool. The key contributors to the local economy are the aluminium smelter, the fertiliser industry, wool, fishing and wine and tourism in general.
