The Kangaroo Valley Wine Region is located about halfway between Nowra and Moss Vale and Nowra, and about 140km southwest of Sydney. It adjoins the Shoalhaven Coast Region and offers a spectacular natural environment of pristine rivers, rolling dairy and cattle grazing lands, rugged cliffs along the escarpment and lovely natural forest areas that are ideal for bushwalking and camping. Kangaroo Valley is a unique special place, being enclosed by a spectacular amphitheatre of high sandstone cliffs and the Morton National Park, which is one of the largest and most popular parks in NSW. The landscape and many of the buildings in town have been listed by the National Trust for their cultural significance and outstanding scenic beauty. Kangaroo Valley has wonderful facilities for tourists and visitors,
including delightful arts and craft shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants and a
charming local pub. The area has a wide range of accommodation options,
including camping and caravan parks, self-contained houses, bed and breakfasts,
and a motel. There are a small number of wineries that offer tastings and cellar door sales.
You can enjoy wonderful canoeing and kayaking along the gently flowing waters of the
Kangaroo River. You can hire canoes and kayaks from several local operators, and
there are several options for tours through the valley that include many scenic
lookouts and visits to Fitzroy Falls and Tallowa Dam. You may even enjoy tasting some of
the local yabbies (small freshwater crayfish) that can be caught in the local creeks and
rivers and in farm dams.
