Shoalhaven Coast Wine Region extends down the South Coast of New South Wales from Kiama in the north to Duross in the south, and is within a day-trip distance close to Canberra (2.5 hours) Sydney (2 hours), and Wollongong (1 hour) and features about 20 cellar doors. It is particul;arly well known best known for Chamboucin, which is a French red wine hybrid variety. Some of the key towns are Nowra, Shoalhaven Heads, Berry, Jaspers Bush, Gerringong, Kiama, Gerroa, Ulladulla, Milton and Mollymook A fantastic way to taste the fabulous Shoalhaven Coast wines is to visit during the Shoalhaven Coast Winter Wine Festival, held over the June Long Weekend. Many of the wineries offer tours of their vineyards, wine production facilities and cellar doors and there is lots of outdoor entertainment and regional food available. The climate has a distinct maritime influence with mild summer and winters and few frosts, except for inland areas. A wide range of varieties are grown and of wine styles produced. The Shoalhaven Coast Region was only declared in 2002, but local wineries have has already won more than 1,000 awards and medals. In 2008 Kladis Estate was awarded a host of medals at the AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge and the London International Wine Show. Other leading wineries in the Region are Roselea Vineyard, Cupitts, Silo Estate, Mountain Ridge Wines, Two Figs, Mountain Ridge Wines, Nowra Hill Vineyard, Bawley Vale and Yarrawa Estate. The Shoalhaven coastline is one of the most spectacular in Australia - with fabulous surfing beaches, wondeful fishing, whale watching and diving in Jervis Bay. Festivals include the Berry Show, the Ulladulla's annual Food and Wine Festival and the Shoalhaven Coast Wine Festival.
