Swan Hill Wine Region, NSW

The Swan Hill Wine Region includes wineries and vineyards along the Murray River between Swan Hill and Kerang and Boort in North West Victoria. Some of the other towns are villages in the area include: Piangil, Nyah, Swan Hill, Lake Boga, Kerang, Mystic Park, Lake Charm, Cohuna, Pyramid Hill. The constant sunshine and irrigation allow wines with ripe fruit flavours and softness to be produced. The region has a typical Mediterranean climate with dry summers and mild winters. Most of the rainfall occurs between May and October, with average annual rainfall about 250mm. Autumn has many warm days with cool evenings, winter brings mild days and cold nights, Spring in warm with cool nights, and Summer is hot with warm nights. A wide range of grape varieties are grown, but most of the emphasis is on Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and fortified varieties such as Blanco, Semillon, Muscat Gordo and Colombard. Harvest time is generally from late January to mid March; Mean January temp: 23.9 degrees C; Sunshine hours per day: 9.7. Swan Hill lies in the heart of the Murray River area.
