The Boorawa Wine District is centred around the charming country town of
Borrowa located about 320 km south-west of Sydney and north of Canberra
in the Hilltops Wine Region. Borrowa is well known for the wacky annual
Running of the Sheep during the Irish Woolfest held in October each
year that celebrates the town's Irish links. There are Irish singers and
dancers, also pipe bands, a street parade and hot air ballooning.
Wool and wheat are the cornerstones of the town's economy, but orchards, tourism and boutique wineries are also important. There are many villages nearby to visit in the surrounding countryside. Enjoy visiting Wyangala Dam and the many nature reserves in the area. You can also enjoy strolling through the town and visiting the delightful range of food stores, arts and crafts stores and local art galleries and the Boorowa Historical Museum.
The Hilltops Wine Region is home to three districts:
Young ;
Boorowa ;
Harden.
