Adelaide Plains Wine Region

The Adelaide Plains Region includes the area located about 30 km north of Adelaide. The region lies south east of the Barossa Valley, west of the Adelaide Hills and to the west by the coastal waters of Gulf St Vincent. The region is one of the major fruit and vegetable growing areas of South Australia, there are many vineyards and wineries in the area.Wine production in the area began with two wineries: Primo Estate, established in 1973 by the Grilli family, and Barossa Valley Estates. The maritime Mediterranean climate, features long warm days and mild nights. There are warm to hot summers and mild to cool and wet winters. Sea breezes from the nearby Gulf St Vincent keeps temperature from getting too hot in summer. The Roseworthy Agricultural College runs course in wine making and vineyard management and has research and training facilities. Many of Australia's wine industry people trained at the college. Also located in the northeast Adelaide is the National Wine Centre. Some of the local towns in the Region include: McDonald Park, Elizabeth, Salisbury, Lauriston, Angle Vale, Penfield, Virginia.

The Adelaide Plains Wine Region includes two districts : Angle Vale ; Gawler
