Gold Coast Hinterland Region
The magnificent Gold Coast Hinterland Wine Region includes the beautiful rainforest areas surrounding Mt Tamborine, the lush green rural areas in the valleys of Clagiraba, Canungra, and the Albert River and extends south to the coastal border areas on the border with New South Wales. In includes the hilly area inland from Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. The Gold Coast Hinterland is one of Queensland's boutique wine region. It boasts an outstanding array of charming boutique wine makers and vineyards making award-winning wines. Many of the cellar doors and restaurants in this region have been established in historic homesteads and other buildings, and offer the visitors an outstanding wine tourism experience. This wine area is located only a short half hour drive from the Gold Coast and only
an hour from Brisbane. Benefiting from the cooler inland climates surrounding Mt Tamborine the area is suitable for a variety of grape types including Verdelho, Chambourcin and Semillon, Merlot, Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Viognier. Most of the local boutique wine makers are glad to meet with you and to discuss their wines and the local climate and terroir. The Region showcases some of the best premium wines made in Queensland and Australia. Many of the wine makers offer superb restaurants, dairy cheese, olives and other local produce, gourmet picnics, guided tours and wonderful facilities. Group tours and bus groups are encouraged, as well as individual travellers. There is a wide range of wine tour providers departing from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. These guided
tours are an excellent way to explore and learn about the wines and wineries in the magnificent area.
