The South Burnett region has a modern history of viticulture dating back to 1993.
The South Burnett wine region is located 200 km north-west of Brisbane, 150 km north of Toowoomba and 150 km from the Sunshine Coast. Located north west of Brisbane, the South Burnett is bordered by the Great Dividing Range and extends inland to the rich red paddocks of Kingaroy. The regional climate can be classed as sub-tropical, with its diverse range of soils all having a pH level suited to viticulture. With its warm summer days, crisp cool nights and fertile soils, the South Burnett is a haven of vineyards stretching from Goomeri in the north, through the Murgon region to the Bunya Mountains, Kingaroy and south to Nanango. The vineyards can be seen growing alongside olive groves, timber plantations, orchards and traditional agriculture. The region wineries have already won strings of awards at State and national shows.
The region's main wine styles include Verdelho, Chardonnay, Semillon, Shiraz,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The South Burnett Wine Region includes five districts :
