Maclean Wine District

The Maclean Wine District, in the Northern Rivers Wine Region of New South Wales includes ships of Maclean, Yamba, Brooms Head and Iluka at the mouth of the mighty Clarence River. It is ideally located in an area between three magnificent Nature reserves - the Banyabba Nature Reserve to the west, the Bundjalung National Park to the north, the Yuraygir National Park to the South and the pristine coastline to the east. The township of Maclean has a proud Scottish heritage which is showcased every year, at the Highland Gathering over the Easter weekend. The Highland games feature Solo Piping and Drumming, Highland Dancing, Pipe Bands and the popular Highland Sports, which includes: tossing the hammer, caber tossing and log wrestling. Nearby on the coast is the magnificent holiday and fishing village of Yamba, which is bout 670m north of Sydney. Yamba has many fabulous seafood outlets, restaurants, cafes and a wonderful array of accommodation. There are excellent boating facilities, bowling greens, golf course and a huge deep-water marina and lots of attractions and activities to provide something for everyone who visits the district. Some of these activities include: # Boating on the Clarence River # Bushwalking along the Angourie Walking Track in Yuraygir National Park. # Exploring the magnificent coastal landscapes and beaches of Bundjalung National Park # Surfing and swimming at the local beaches # Visiting local heritage buildings, Museums, Art Galleries and Craft outlets. # Touring the wineries in the district and region and in the famous Granite Belt Region, in Southern Queensland and New England Wine Region to the West of Maclean, both just 2-3 hours away.
