The Eltham Wine District in the Yarra Valley Wine region is based on the suburb of Plenty, Wattle Grove, Eltham, which are outer suburbs of Melbourne. Eltham is one of the so-called 'green wedge' areas that provide relatively undeveloped, natural green environments within the Melbourne suburban region. Eltham is known for its many attractions including the famous Montsalvat artists colony and the popular Diamond Valley Railway, a rideable miniature railway. Eltham is the eastern gateway to the delights of the Yarra Valley. The Eltham Heritage Trail is a 5 km circuit around Eltham that includes many local landmarks including the Montsalvat Arts Complex.
